| Eastern Washington University Press is pleased to announce that the 2009 Spokane Prize for Short Fiction has been awarded to Becky Hagenston, for her manuscript Strange Weather. Ms. Hagenston, whose stories have been widely published, is the author of A Gram of Mars (Sarabande, 1998), which won the 1997 Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction, and a past recipient of an O. Henry Award, for "Till Death Us Do Part" (in Prize Stories 1996: The O. Henry Awards). She has held scholarships from the Sewanee Writers' Conference, the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, and the Summer Literary Seminars in St. Petersburg, as well as a residency at Yaddo. Born in Maryland, she received her MA from New Mexico State University and her MFA from the University of Arizona. She now teaches at Mississippi State University.
