EWU’s Student Voting Hub

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The Associated Students of Eastern Washington University (ASEWU) want to ensure that members of the Eastern community have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming election. The organization, in collaboration with the Spokane County Auditor’s office, will host a nonpartisan “Student Voting Hub” from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 5) in the Pence Union Building’s Nysether Community Room (PUB NCR).

All eligible Washington residents (students, faculty, staff and community members) will be able to complete same-day registration and vote at the event.

Students taking classes in Spokane:

EWU’s Office of the President will partner with Spokane County to offer a Voting Service Center at the Catalyst building on Monday, November 4 from 8:30AM-5PM and Tuesday, November 5 from 7AM-8PM. Eligible Washington residents will be able to register to vote, update their registration, drop off a completed ballot, get a replacement ballot or envelope, use an accessible voting unit, and ask questions about voting in Spokane County.

Student Resources

EWU recognizes that the election has the potential to cause additional stress for students as they attempt to complete their course work. We’ve put together a number of resources for students to access in the lead up to and the aftermath of the election. Some of these resources are dedicated to helping you find a place to process your thoughts and feelings with others. Other resources are designed to provide an alternative set of activities for students who’ve just had enough ‘political stuff’ and want to do something other than talk about the election.

Election Processing Spaces

EWU Counseling and Wellness Services‘s “Let’s Talk” offers EWU students a confidential space for a brief informal conversation with a CWS counselor who will listen to your concerns and provide support, perspective, and suggestions for resources. No appointment required for these 15-20 minute sessions. Counseling and Wellness Services will offer an expanded schedule of “Let’s Talk” sessions around the election:

National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement Campus Report 2022 – Eastern Washington University

College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

From 12-1:30PM on Wednesday, October 30, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences will host “What’s at Stake on Election Day?” in Showalter 109. This is a panel discussion regarding the upcoming United States general elections.  Speakers from the EWU Political Science and Philosophy Programs will present ideas and open discussions to the audience, in anticipation of the November 5th, 2024 elections.

JLR Multicultural Center

In collaboration with Student Rights and Responsibilities, the JLR Multicultural Center will host “Thanks 4 Thanksgiving” on November 20 from 2-3PM in PUB 317. The event will provide self-care plans, communication tools, and active listening exercises for EWU students as they prepare to head home for the Holiday Break and learn how to navigate difficult discussions/topics/issues with family members.

Department of Engineering and Design

On display in the JFK Library Secrist Gallery through Election Day: View over 70 Get Out the Vote posters created by EWU Design Students. These non-partisan posters are designed to rally the youth vote.

Be Smart, Be Heard

Election Day is Nov. 5

If eligible to vote, have your voice count by submitting your ballot. Same-day voter registration and in-person voting available at EWU's Student Engagement Hub in the PUB NCR from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Respect Others

Just like you have a right to voice your opinion, so do others. While our opinions may not be shared by everyone we interact with, EWU encourages students to express themselves and to engage in conversations respectfully.

Take Care of Yourself

Breathe deeply. Allow yourself to feel what you feel. Give yourself room to process. Set boundaries. Your mental, emotional, and physical health are all important and need to be cared for. Exercise, get rest, eat well, sign-off of social media, connect with loved ones, and lean into 'me time.'

Stay Engaged

Identify ways to engage politically beyond Election 2024. Join an EWU club or committee. Attend city council meetings. Call or write your legislators. Over it completely and need a break from politics? You are not alone. EWU has planned alternative activities for the politically-weary.

EWU Student Services are here for you. Reach out to CWS, the JLR MultiCultural Center, the PRIDE Center, the WAGE Center, the Veterans Resouce Center, Student Activities, Student Care Team as they host processing groups to talk it out.

Civic engagement is a cornerstone of democracy, and one of the most important ways to contribute is by registering to vote and participating in elections. I encourage every student to take part in this fundamental process and make their voice heard on issues that matter to them, their neighbors, and our nation.
