30 Years of Expanding Horizons

Join us as we celebrate 30 years of cultivating scholars in McNair Scholars at Eastern Washington University! Since 1995, EWU’s McNair Scholars Program program has been dedicated to providing students research experience, graduate school preparation, mentorship and networking.

For three decades, the McNair Scholars program at EWU has been a beacon of inspiring potential, cultivating scholars and expanding horizons. Our alumni have gone on to lead meaningful careers, championing causes that matter most. The 30th anniversary celebration is Thursday, May 22nd. We have two opportunities for you celebrate with us!

Can’t make it in person but want to celebrate with us? Join us virtually on May 21!

Open House | Thursday, May 22 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Location: Monroe Hall 107 | EWU Cheney Campus

This open house is an opportunity for alumni, past and current staff, scholars and mentors to connect and share updates!

McNair Spring Dinner | Thursday, May 22 | 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Please join us for the 28th Annual McNair Program Gathering to welcome the newly selected McNair Scholars, honor graduating students and their research mentors, and to support the goals of the McNair Program.

Gather with us for a joyful evening to cap off our 30th anniversary celebration with McNair Scholars, alumni, families, faculty, staff and other McNair advocates for a delicious dinner and dessert, program activities, music and, most importantly, to acknowledge the McNair Scholars’ accomplishments and show support of their future successes!

About Trio McNair Scholar Program

The federally-funded TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program at EWU selects motivated and talented sophomores and juniors who are first-generation and low-income college students, and/or from groups underrepresented at the doctoral level to introduce them to academic research and provide them with effective strategies for getting into and graduating from PhD programs. Operating on a cohort model, the program prepares undergraduates for success as graduate students, professors, and professional researchers.

Support EWU McNair Scholars Program

Each year, McNair provides $70,000 or more directly to students for summer research stipends, living allowances, travel for students to present at research conferences, and supplies to keep our scholars going throughout the year. We serve 29 or more students annually as well as dozens of alumni! Your contribution helps support scholars in their journey to graduate school.
