About

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Certificate program will prepare you to teach career and technical education courses in Washington State high schools.

The certificate enables technical experts to enter the field of teaching. CTE teachers can come from a variety of fields which entail specialized skills, applied science, technology, and career preparation. CTE offers three paths to certification:

Plan 1: a traditional program for candidates who are seeking to enter the teaching profession and obtain their Washington State Residency Teaching Certificate. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS.

Plan 2A:  A non-credit bearing path for those who wish to obtain a CTE certificate and gain clock hours. APPLICATIONS CLOSED. WILL OPEN IN NOVEMBER 2024.

Plan 2B: A path for those who wish to obtain a CTE certificate and gain college credit. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS.

FAQ's

CTE Plan 1 students may be eligible for financial aid if they meet the following criteria:

  • You must be fully admitted to EWU, via the EWU undergraduate admission process
  • You must be declared as degree-seeking in the CTE program

CTE Plan 2 A & B do not qualify for financial aid.

The CTE Plan 2 A & B are fully online and asynchronous. You can complete coursework at anytime as long as you follow deadlines outlined by the instructor.

CTE Plan 1 is on campus and in person.

THESE PROGRAMS ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS.

 

Yes! Students can start during any quarter once they are accepted into the program. One thing to keep in mind is that practicum work cannot be completed during summer quarter, so you may have to extend your program one additional quarter if you’re practicum quarter lands in summer.
