Do you dream of becoming a professional pianist? Consider earning a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Piano Performance at Eastern Washington University. Our program offers in-depth studies in piano pedagogy and literature and gives you a diverse skill set that includes solo and collaborative performances,  improvisation, chamber music, and accompaniment.

With more than 100 concerts a year, our program provides plenty of opportunities to perform both on and off campus. You’ll also collaborate with faculty, receive one-on-one guidance, and participate in masterclasses led by guest artists. Our program encourages you to join ensembles like the Piano Ensemble, which can count toward your ensemble requirements.

As you advance in your studies, you’ll get the chance to showcase your growth through a junior recital and a senior capstone, giving you real-world performance and project experience as you prepare for your piano career.

Piano Performance Major, Bachelor of Music (BM)

Required: students must audition for the piano performance major with three contrasting works from the standard repertoire, one of which may be a chamber work, and be accepted into a studio for performance study. Review the Music website for audition requirements.

In programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, the program provides thoroughly professional and supportive training. Students in this program may focus on pedagogy, collaborative pianism, performance, or a combination of those areas. This leads to myriad pathways for lucrative careers in the field. This course of study presupposes that the student will have a strong background in piano performance skills, demonstrated in the entrance audition. The piano performance curriculum includes solo and duo performance, pedagogy, collaborative piano, improvisation, chamber music, and accompanying skills.

Grade Requirement for all majors offered by the Music Department: the minimum acceptable grade for any music course required for graduation (including transferred music courses) is ≥C.

A Performance major prepares students for professional careers in the music industry, emphasizing the development of advanced technical skills, artistry, and performance delivery. Students specialize in an instrument or voice, honing their craft through individual lessons, ensemble work, and live performances. In addition to mastering their chosen instrument or voice, students learn about music theory, history, and the business of music.
