On August 25, 2018, Daniel Morales, MPH alumni and Community Outreach and Development Manager at Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Outreach Center, hosted a Back to School Drive at East Central Community Center. Current MPH student Dilli Gautam volunteered for the event and witnessed how the MPH program prepared students such as Daniel to become community leaders.
The Back to School Drive included backpacks, school supplies, food, toiletries, and haircuts for returning Spokane students. “This is just a time that we can really make sure our students are prepared and they’re not so stressed,” Daniel said. Fire trucks and police officers were stationed outside the Community Center to interact with students and the community. The event was a great kick-off to the school year and a wonderful opportunity to engage members in the health of their community.
