Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. In order for the completion of your Palliative Care Certificate to show on your transcript, you are required to apply for it.

You’ll need to complete an application for the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care.

  1. Visit the Graduate Programs Apply page and use the EWU Graduate School application.
  2. Create your account. If you already have an account, use the login feature and do not create a new account.
  3. Follow the process provided and submit your application.

In your application, you will be asked to briefly describe your reason for completing the certificate and your future goals for how you might use the knowledge/skills gained from it.
Note: You do not have to submit your transcript if you are already in one of the EWU graduate programs.

We recommend that you apply for the certificate as soon as you have decided to complete it. As your circumstances/interests might change, this may not be realistic for some of you. Thus, applying for the certificate at least one term before you take your last palliative care courses is strongly recommended. For instance, if you are taking your last palliative care course during the spring term, you apply for the certificate as soon as you register for the class that takes place during the winter term.

Yes, there is a $75 application fee. However, if you are already an EWU graduate student, the application fee is waived. Even if you apply for the certificate and change your mind later about completing it, you will not have been charged a fee.

In the EWU Graduate School application, please submit your application. Then contact the Graduate Programs Office at gradprograms@ewu.edu to let them know you are already an EWU graduate student in another program and that you are applying for the Palliative Care certificate for an application waiver.

In addition to completing the three required classes, you will need to pay the $53 graduation fee.

As long as you apply for the certificate before you graduate with your master’s degree and while you are an EWU graduate student student, the $75 fee is waived.

If you are graduating in June with your MSW and need/decide to take a class (or even all three courses) for the Palliative Care Certificate in the summer following graduation, your application fee will be waived. You will be awarded the certificate once you complete all courses in the summer. In that case, you will want to wait to order your official transcript until after you have completed your summer class(es) so that your transcript will list the certificate.

Again, you will still have to pay the $53 graduation fee.
