About

Dean Bowman earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in geology at the University of Southern California.

He was the interim dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) and professor of geophysics at California State University, Fullerton. Previously he spent six years as the chair of the Department of Geological Sciences at Cal State Fullerton.

About

Jen Waldo grew up in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, and attended college at Hobart and William Smith in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York where she majored in Biology.  She pursued a PhD in Molecular Biology at the Weill campus of Cornell University in New York City where she worked out some of the molecular details of DNA replication.  Her postdoctoral studies were at the University of California at San Francisco and described the structure and function of motor proteins that are required for cell division.  Following a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship at Vassar College, she joined the faculty at the State University of New York at New Paltz in the nearby Hudson River Valley.  While at SUNY New Paltz, she attained rank of full professor, served as biology department chair, and associate dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts.  Her recent scholarly interests range from protein structure and function to eDNA and species molecular barcoding to development of novel genetic diagnostic tests.  She loves learning and exploring and looks forward to doing a lot of that in Eastern Washington.

About

Janae Carrothers is excited to join the EWU community! She attended Washington State University, earning Bachelor’s degrees in Biology, Science education, and a Master’s in Bioinformatics. Janae met her spouse and moved to Spokane, WA in 2015. Spreading her love of education and STEM, Janae worked at Spokane Falls Community College as an Instructional Laboratory Technician, Adjunct Professor, and MESA Director throughout the years. Janae now is EWU’s CSTEM Undergraduate/Graduate Student Services Administrator. Janae spends her free time walking her dogs, Simon and Garfunkel, volunteering at Cat Tales Wildlife Center, and working on an online Masters through Miami University in Biology Teaching and Inquiry.

About

Laura started her career in New York, where she served as an assistant to the Managing Partner of a law firm specializing in work and refugee visas. She transitioned into finance when she moved back to her home state of Washington. She earned her associate degree in business while working in corporate financial accounting and has over five years of experience in A/P, A/R, and cost accounting.

She now serves as Fiscal Specialist 2 at EWU, where she focuses on payroll and budgets.

About

Jazmine is a Career Advisor in the EWU Career Center and the CSTEM Liaison. She graduated from EWU in 2018 with a BA in Business Marketing and a BA in Visual Communication Design.
