Ashley Gavin is a computer science education consultant with a passion for making computer science curricula empowering, accessible, and above all, fun. Her work in curriculum and program development serves as the foundation for some of the finest educational organizations in the country including her brainchild “Girls Who Code”.

Debbie Sterling is an engineer and founder of GoldieBlox, a toy company out to inspire the next generation of female engineers. She has made it her mission in life to tackle the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and math. Debbie’s inspiration to create a mission-driven company came in 2008, when she spent 6 months volunteering at a grassroots nonprofit in rural India. She created a viral fundraising campaign called “”I Want a Goat,”” raising over $30,000 for economic and educational development in the region. This experience helped pave the way to finding her true passion: inspiring the next generation of female engineers.

Jomi Babatunde-Omoya, a 16-year-old Abbott Engineering Intern, has always loved math and science. When her 5th grade class went on a field trip to a local college and shadowed engineering students, she realized it was possible to build a career following her passions. After spending the day learning the importance of engineering and participating in problem-solving exercises, she was hooked. To her, being an engineer means making people’s lives better on a day-to-day basis, trusting in herself and others to, “make the world a better place.”

Black Women have filled incredible and often unknown or understated roles in the advancement of computing throughout history. Their legacy serves as an inspiration to the Black Women in Computing community and Black women in tech everywhere.
