About
Gina Mikel Petrie, PhD is a professor and the coordinator of the English as a Second Language Program. She has an M.A. degree in Applied Linguistics/TESOL from Indiana University and a doctorate in Education from Washington State University. She is an English Language Specialist with the U.S. Department of State and was assigned to work with English professors of English for tourism in Amman, Jordan, in 2018; in 2020 she began a virtual assignment to create curriculum and workshops to teach elementary English instructors how to teach language online in New Delhi, India. She specializes in English for specific purposes, using Educative Curriculum Materials to reach teachers in low-resource areas, teaching English learners with trauma-sensitive strategies, and teaching online. She has carried out international teacher education in Nicaragua, Mexico, Jordan, Italy, and India. Her research explores the sociocultural contexts in which language instruction and teacher professional development occur and has appeared in publications such as TESOL Journal, Teaching and Teacher Education, English Teaching Forum, among others.
