Brick Campaign
Leave Your Mark at EWU
Make it permanent with a brick in Showalter's historic walkway to support student success.
The Brick Campaign provides a unique opportunity to support EWU and leave your legacy through the purchase of bricks along one of Eastern’s historic walkways.
In 1915, alumni and students created a gateway to campus. Comprised of two prominent stone pillars, it was designed to send a message of hope and renewal in the aftermath of the Cheney Normal School fire of 1912. Stone and granite from the original school were used to build the monument—pillars which would become known as the Gates of Knowledge.
Each September, new Eastern Washington University students mark their first steps on campus as they walk through the Gates of Knowledge and up the brick pathway that leads to Showalter Hall in the Pass Through the Pillars tradition. The tradition is based on a decades-old practice of Eastern students arriving by train in downtown Cheney, walking up what is now College Avenue, then “passing through the pillars” to start their studies at Eastern.

The tax-deductible bricks are 4″ x 8″ and will display special messages chosen by you. You may add your class year, collegiate organization or a special message. Bricks are also a great opportunity to congratulate a recent grad, celebrate a degree or accomplishment, or honor a loved one.
