Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility at EWU Libraries

The EWU Libraries is committed to fostering a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all members of our diverse campus community. Our commitment aligns with the library profession’s pledge to diversity and the University’s Strategic Plan 2024-2029: Belonging through Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

EWU Libraries embodies the values of diversity, equity and inclusion in our professional practice and adheres to the principles and practices that foster respect, equity, and belonging across our spaces, collections, services, and personnel throughout the organization:

  • Support the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, affirming libraries as forums for information and ideas guided by seven core policies.
  • Provide access to a wide range of information resources that reflect diverse viewpoints.
  • Ensure equitable access to resources for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Foster a workplace culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core responsibility of every employee.
  • Celebrate and promote diversity through collections, inclusive programming, and partnerships on campus and in the community.

Hate speech and hate conduct are not tolerated in the library. The American Library Association defines hate speech or conduct as:

We provide aid and support to victims of such crimes and those targeted by hateful conduct.
