EWU Faculty and Staff Give Nearly $45,000 on Giving Joy Day

Eastern Washington University celebrated Giving Joy Day on Friday, asking the community to give to critical student needs and to share joy in other ways, particularly social media due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The campus community did not disappoint! By 11:40 Friday morning, faculty and staff had unlocked the president’s match.

The president sent the following letter congratulating faculty and staff on their accomplishment:

Dear Eastern Community:

Thank you! You met my Giving Joy Day challenge and supported the Student Emergency Fund. Your dedication to our students is outstanding.

By noon on Friday, faculty and staff had donated more than $13,800 to the Student Emergency Fund. That unlocked my matching gift. When we added it all up at the end of the day—together we raised $29,543 for that fund.

Donations to the Student Emergency Fund will address students’ critical needs during this pandemic. We’ve already used the fund to purchase Chromebooks for students who need a laptop to take their classes online. Because of you, we can address additional technology needs for our students, as well as basic needs like food and child care.

Many of you also supported the EWU Food Pantry, scholarships, your departments, colleges, and other programs. Overall, faculty and staff donated $44,097 on Friday, contributing to the grand total of $270,972 to Eastern Washington University. That’s a lot of joy!
