JFK Library – Home at the Heart of Campus

January 23, 2025

We invite students to make themselves at home at the JFK Library and Learning Commons. Whether they crave a quiet place to study, an area to collaborate with classmates, or a lounge space to enjoy a Thomas Hammer coffee with friends, the library is the place to be!

On Thursday, Feb. 6, 11 am to 1 pm, we invite all students to join us for a JFK Library Building-Wide Service Fair! The event will feature representatives from all our library and learning commons service points, free giveaway items, cookies, and coffee from Thomas Hammer! (More info is available online.)

What services and resources are available in the JFK Library?

Spaces to study and spaces to relax. JFK features a variety of spaces, including open areas with whiteboard tables and areas with lounge seating. We have 27 dedicated study rooms, ranging from individual carrels to group rooms with whiteboards and digital screens. While some can be reserved, most are first-come, first-served spaces. Visit our study rooms and spaces page for more information.

Silent study areas. We all can use a space away from hustle and bustle, phone calls, conversations, and other disruptions. At JFK Library we’ve carved out special silent study areas on all three floors of the library to give students the quiet certain projects and assignments demand. View our floor maps to locate these special areas.

Access materials from our library collection or borrow from far away. We’ve got millions of items, in print and online, including books, scholarly journals, DVDs, scores, databases, streaming media, and archival materials. Students can search our online catalog or browse our physical collection by subject with our improved shelf signage. Students may also use our Summit and Interlibrary Loan services to request items from other libraries.

Borrow equipment, like cameras, laptops, hotspots, and audio equipment. Equipment Checkout Services, located on JFK’s lower floor, has a wide variety of tech items to loan. Visit our website to see what we’ve got for your student. JFK’s main level also hosts a walk-up laptop kiosk.

Computers and print/scan stations are located throughout JFK. Students can easily access the software they need, and Wepa (wireless everywhere print anywhere) stations make printing and scanning a breeze. Students can print from the cloud, an upload, a USB thumb drive, an email, or a mobile device. Visit our scan and print page to learn more!

Get research help anytime, day or night. We offer help with walk-up service, and via text, phone, and chat, or can request an in-depth research consultation with a faculty librarian via appointment. See all ways to get help on our “Ask a Librarian” website. We’ve also got easy-access library tutorials.

Subject-specific research guides are online. Does your student have a tough research assignment? We have online subject guides at the ready!

Access services like tutoring, academic coaching, writing assistance, and large-format poster printing. The JFK Learning Commons houses a powerhouse team of student service providers including the Multimedia Commons, the Writers’ Center, and PLUS (Program Leading to University Success).
