Work is underway this summer to replace the red turf at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field. The original turf reached its max lifespan of ten years last summer, and has been removed. A new red turf—which will continue the legacy of “The Inferno”—will be installed in the coming weeks.
EWU wants to ensure that the original turf doesn’t end up in the trash. For many alumni, fans and friends, the first red field holds a lot of memories and represents a turning point in Eastern Washington Football—now a perennial powerhouse in the Big Sky and FCS football. Eastern Athletics wants fans and supporters get a piece of that history.
The community is invited preserve the past while Eastern raises money for the future by purchasing a section of the retired turf. The purchase price will support student-athlete scholarships through the Eagle Athletic Fund. Fans can choose from a doormat sized piece for only $20 or a larger size perfect for a patio or tailgating starting at $75.
Pieces of the retired red turf are on sale now through Friday, July 31, or while supplies last. Purchased pieces will be available for pickup in the near future and purchasers will be notified. Additional purchase information is available on the webpage link above.
Proceeds benefit the Eagle Athletic Fund, which plays a vital role in enhancing the lives of more than 300 student-athletes through scholarship support, building and maintaining first-class facilities and funding 14 sports programs.
