Thanksgiving and Winter Break Housing Information

It has been an eventful start to the 2024-2025 academic year. It is our hope that your student has had a great fall, found a place in the community, and started out the year strong academically. Many of you will be spending the next few days with your student as they prepare to return to campus, take finals, and join you again for Winter Break. Below are some important talking points for your time together (your student has received this information multiple times, so they should be ready for the conversation!):

Thanksgiving

• Residents are welcome to remain on campus during the Thanksgiving break.
• There is very limited food service, so students should plan ahead and get some groceries to cook in their building.
• For emergency purposes please have your student sign up here.

Winter Break

• ALL Residence Halls close on Friday, December 13th at noon!
• If your student is coming back for winter quarter they DO NOT need to move all your belongings out or turn in your key. Just take what they need! 
• Halls re-open for students on Sunday, January 5, 2025. 
• If they need to stay for winter break apply for winter break housing here. 

Registration

• All students must be registered for Winter quarter in order to move back in on January 5th.
• Ask if your student has registered for Winter classes (they will probably say yes, also ask which classes).
• If students have not registered there are two holds that could be preventing them – a balance exceeding $1,000 or they haven’t met with an academic advisor. Encourage them to reach out to us for help navigating that before they leave for break.

Students Moving Out

• If your student has made the decision to no longer attend EWU or live on campus have them come talk to us immediately.
• Here is information about cancellation consequences and processes.

A lot of fun has been had Fall quarter and we are ready to continue into the Winter. Please use us as a resource as you navigate any questions about break, Winter quarter housing, student struggles, etc. We are here for you!
